    What is Microlaryngeal Surgery?

A Microlaryngeal surgery, also known as micro laryngoscopy is a procedure wherein the doctor visualizes the vocal folds or voice box and operates on them using a dissection instrument. There are no incisions made and the procedure is done using a laryngeal scope-an instrument inserted through the mouth.

    Microlaryngeal Surgery Procedure

The procedure occurs in the out-patients department and therefore is a one-day surgery.

    1. The patient is given general anaesthesia for his/her comfort and made to fall asleep for the procedure.
    2. The procedure involves two instruments-operative microscope and Microlaryngeal dissection instrument known as laryngoscope.
    3. The surgeon inserts the laryngoscope through the nose to the throat to look of the damage,
    4. Once the damage gets visualized, the doctor removes it using the surgical tools that have been threaded through the laryngoscope.
    5. Since the process focuses only on the affected area, the neighbouring tissues remain unharmed.

Who Should opt for a Microlaryngeal Surgery?

People who have the below problems are advised to opt for a Microlaryngeal surgery,

    1. Presence of any cysts, polyps or nodules which come under non-cancerous vocal fold lesions.
